Mackenzie Bennett Banks graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Law in 2022. She earned her law degrees from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2025.
Mackenzie developed an early and focused interest in family law during law school. She competed in the provincial-wide Walsh Appellate Family Law Moot Competition at the Ontario Court of Appeal in Toronto and worked at a boutique family law firm where she gained experience representing clients at both the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice. In her final year of law school, Mackenzie was elected as the President of the Family Law Society.
Clients can expect Mackenzie to approach her practice with compassion and reliability. She is committed to helping families move through difficult legal matters with consistent communication, zealous advocacy, and professionalism. Many matters may be solved through out-of-court processes but she is prepared to confidently represent her clients through litigation if necessary.
Mackenzie’s approach is shaped by her extensive work with families in vulnerable and transitional moments. Throughout her studies, she volunteered at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, supporting the families of childhood cancer patients, and Bruyère Health, assisting older adults with dementia. Mackenzie worked at a daycare to help neurodivergent children practice healthy before and after school transitions, volunteered as a ski instructor for children with disabilities, and supported families at the London Abused Women’s Centre. In law school, she was chosen as the Project Lead for Pro Bono Students Canada to spearhead the Southwestern Ontario division of the Trans ID Clinic, which facilitated the process for individuals interested in legally changing their government names and gender markers.
In her free time, Mackenzie enjoys trying new cuisines, experimenting with various hobbies, and travelling to new places with her friends and family. Her tried-and-true hobbies include aquascaping, skiing, making pottery, and spending time with her cat, Meeko.
